Understanding Your Water Quality

What's Really in Your Water - and What We Remove

The Truth About "Clean" Water

Even if your tap water looks clear and passes municipal standards, it likely contains concerning levels of contaminants that can impact your health over time.

Municipal water treatment plants were designed decades ago to prevent waterborne diseases like cholera and typhoid. They do an excellent job with that mission. However, they were not designed to remove:

  • PFAS ("forever chemicals") from industrial sources
  • Pharmaceutical residues from wastewater
  • Microplastics from degrading infrastructure
  • Heavy metals from aging pipes
  • Agricultural runoff (herbicides, pesticides)
  • Industrial chemicals and VOCs

These modern contaminants require advanced filtration technology - the kind found in pH Prescription systems.

Up to 99%

Contaminant Reduction

pH Prescription systems reduce up to 99% of 15+ major contaminant categories including fluoride, lead, PFAS, chlorine, and more.

How to Test Your Water

Understanding what's in your water is the first step to choosing the right filtration system

Municipal Water (City Water)

If you're on city water, you have the right to know what's in it:

1. Request Your Consumer Confidence Report (CCR)

  • Required by EPA, published annually by your water utility
  • Lists detected contaminants and their levels
  • Shows compliance with federal standards
  • Usually available on utility website or by request

2. Limitations of CCRs:

  • Tested at treatment plant, not your tap (pipe contamination not measured)
  • Many contaminants not required to be tested (PFAS, many pharmaceuticals)
  • "Safe" levels may still pose long-term health risks
  • Only shows average levels, not peak contamination events

3. Independent Water Testing:

For comprehensive analysis, we recommend testing at your tap:

  • Basic Test: pH, hardness, chlorine, lead, bacteria
  • Standard Test: Above + heavy metals, nitrates, VOCs
  • Comprehensive Test: Everything + PFAS, pesticides, pharmaceuticals

We offer free water quality consultations and can help you interpret your water report and recommend the right system.

Well Water (Private Wells)

Private wells are not regulated by the EPA - testing is your responsibility:

1. Essential Annual Testing:

  • Bacteria (Coliform & E. coli): Test yearly, or after flooding/repairs
  • Nitrates: Test yearly if pregnant women or infants in home
  • pH and Hardness: Affects corrosion and appliance life

2. Additional Tests to Consider:

  • Heavy Metals: Arsenic, lead, mercury (every 2-3 years)
  • VOCs: If near gas stations, dry cleaners, or industrial areas
  • Pesticides: If in agricultural area
  • Radon (dissolved): In areas with known radon issues
  • Fluoride: Can be naturally occurring in high levels

3. When to Test:

  • Before buying or moving into a new home with well
  • After any taste, odor, or color changes
  • After flooding or well repairs
  • If family members experience unexplained illness
  • If neighbors find contamination in their wells

️ Well Water Requires More Comprehensive Filtration

Well water is susceptible to bacteria, sediment, and naturally occurring contaminants. We recommend pairing whole-home filtration with UV disinfection for complete protection.
